The Spire
The Dublin Spire is a 120m tall stainless-steel sculpture. Due to its extremely slender design, the Spire is susceptible to wind-induced excitation during certain wind events. The aerodynamic stability of the structure is maintained by a pair of Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) located approximately 80 metres above ground level. Fitzsimons Consulting Engineers inspect the TMDs annually and the overall structure every 5 years.
